Spinner Chrono Power review

Spinner Chrono Power Overview

The Spinner Chrono Power indoor bike is designed for cycling enthusiasts. It is finely tuned to be performance orientated and is one of the few spin bikes that feels very similar to riding a road bike. Although this is a relatively expensive spin bike, the Spinner Chrono Power is worth every penny if you are serious about leveling up your fitness and want a finely tuned exercise bike with a direct power meter to track your workouts and fitness accurately.

It is made by Precor, a brand that is well known for quality indoor gym equipment. The Spinner Chrono Power is the top-of-the-range indoor spin bike from Precor. So confident are they about the quality of this bike, they are giving a 10-year warranty on the frame and weldments (5 years for Structural moving parts, weight stack plates and components, bearings, bushings, pulleys, and seat adjustments). As you will need to spend $2,000+ for this commercial quality indoor cycling bike, we wanted to do an in-depth Spinner Chrono Power Review to help you find out if it is worth the investment and whether it is the perfect indoor spin bike for you.

Bike Monitor

The ultra-bright LCD color console on the Spinner Chrono Power shows you everything you need to stay on track with your workout. With just 3 buttons, it is easy to navigate, and you can seamlessly choose the fitness data that is being displayed. The console supports SpinPOWER programming for more varied and dedicated workouts.

The screen displays Watts, Average Watts, Kilojoules or Calories, Cadence (RPM), Average Cadence, Heart Rate (BPM), Average Heart Rate, Time and Distance. You can also create up to 10 intervals and view the stats for each stage for real-time performance tracking.

The direct power measurement on the Spinner Chrono Power is super accurate and allows you to play around and challenge yourself with power workouts. Thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, you can use some of the best features on apps such as Zwift without having to buy any additional accessories.

Connectivity

With both Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity, you can pair the Spinner Chrono Power with the majority of 3rd party cycling apps, including Zwift. For some reason, the bike comes out of the box with the Bluetooth connectivity switched off, so you need to look at the instruction manual to get it switched on. There have also been several reviews stating that it was challenging to get the Spinner Chrono Power paired to their iPad or tablet the first time. However, once your device has found the bike, it does remember it, and the process is a lot simpler.

The fact that the Spinner Chrono Power is not restricted to just one app or brand is a big selling point for such a serious piece of kit. You will want to use your favorite cycling or workout app as opposed to having to switch or sign up for a brand new annual subscription. As this is a commercial quality spin bike, they encourage you to use the Gym app Spivi®, but you are not restricted to only this app.

Power Source

As with all the best spin bikes, the Spinner Chrono Power is self-powered. Simply start pedaling, and the ultra-bright LCD screen powers up, and you instantly see your watt measurement and training data. This is just one reason that this exercise bike is so prevalent in spin studios. It is nice not to be restricted to have your spin bike near a power outlet or have to worry about batteries running out mid-ride and losing your data.

Resistance

The magnetic resistance on the Spinner Chrono Power is what makes it so popular among spinning enthusiasts. The patent-pending resistance system offers smooth and realistic resistance throughout your workout. The resistance knob gives you the ability to gently increase/decrease the resistance with every turn, without any big jumps in the resistance level that could put you off your rhythm.

Transmission

The transmission combined with the perfectly weighted flywheel makes this spin bike such a dream to ride. The transmission comes from a Kevlar® reinforced cogged belt. This system is strong enough to withstand the most powerful and intense workouts while also giving you instant power transfer thanks to the teeth and cog system. The transmission being Kevlar-reinforced makes it strong while also being near-silent and requiring absolutely no maintenance.

Flywheel Weight

Heavy perimeter flywheel gives one of the most realistic riding experiences on a spin bike. With the weight being distributed to the outside of the flywheel, the rotations feel more smooth. The flywheel is situated at the front of the bike and is partly exposed, so you will need to be careful if you are looking to workout with little kids around. The flywheel is covered at the top to protect it from your sweat while you push your body to the limits.

Q-Factor Size

For a performance-orientated such as the Spinner Chrono Power, the q-factor is super important. The q-factor is simply the distance between the crank arm (pedal) and the frame. The Spinner Chrono Power q-factor is 162 mm. This is relatively narrow and not far from what you find on road bikes. This is another factor (pun intended) that makes this exercise bike feel like riding a traditional road bike.

Pedals and Cranks

The Spinner Chrono Power comes with dual-sided pedals. You have the choice of adjustable toe clips or SPD cleats. For an exercise bike built for speed, you will be better off being clipped in with SPD cleats to get the most from your workouts.

Specifications and Adjustability

The Spinner Chrono Power is a well-built and sturdy exercise bike. Thanks to its high-quality finish and strong aluminum frame, it can take a generous max rider weight of 350 lb / 158.7 kg. The aluminum frame looks sleek and is designed to protect the drivetrain and flywheel from any sweat that you shed during your workout. The bike itself is relatively heavy, coming in at 50kg. However, thanks to the small transportation wheels at the front, it is easy to move around.

Both the handlebars and seat allow for 4-way adjustability. Allowing you to make micro-adjustments to find the perfect riding position for your workout. Each notch is numbered, making it easy to remember and adjust the bike to your body (really useful if you have to share your spin bike with loved ones.

Accessories

The Spinner Chrono Power’s handlebars come with two water bottle holders on either side of the display and a handy phone holder. Having two water bottles within easy reach is an essential feature if you are looking to maintain peak performance throughout longer workouts. Although there is no tablet holder or slot to make your phone easy to see, you can get an inexpensive tablet holder that converts the bike into a proper smart indoor cycling bike.

The Final Verdict

If you are a road cyclist looking for a spin bike that will help you build and maintain peak fitness, then the Spinner Chrono Power is well worth the price tag. It may not come with all the bells and whistles of other exercise bikes in the price range, but in terms of riding experience and fitness/workout data, the Spinner Chrono Power is second to none. This is a spin bike built to last, and Precor is so confident about the build quality that they give you a generous 10-year warranty.

There is no denying that this is an expensive piece of kit. So if you are new to indoor cycling or do not like the riding position or experience of cycling on a road bike, you should look at other exercise bikes that help create a more holistic workout experience (rather than focusing purely on spinning fast and accurately measuring your power output).
